As a Chinese old saying puts, tea is an excellent plant from the South. The tea of  Guizhou features a long history, a unique flavor and distinctive characteristics.

Through nearly a decade of hard and earnest work, by 2017 the total area of tea plantation in Guizhou Province has exceeded seven million mu, ranking first nationwide for five consecutive years, with an annual tea yield of 327 thousand metric ton. There are 4,149 companies processing tea in Guizhou, generating a trade value of 36.19 billion yuan and lifting 498.5 thousand people out of poverty.

Under such a background, Guizhou continues the work of promotion, increasing brand awareness and influence of tea. Except for the Tea EXPO every year, Guizhou has also organized various activities to make the Guizhou tea go national and international. For an instance, in 2007, in a promotion activity under the theme of the Silk Road with Fragrance of Guizhou Tea, more than 200 tea companies went to cities in countries along the Belt and Road for introduction and promotion. With consistent efforts, both the export and trade volume of Guizhou tea doubled in 2017 for the first time since 2015.

In 2020, the value of exported tea totaled 231 million dollars, and Guizhou matcha was exported for the first time. In addition, a group of tea companies such as Feng Xiangyuan company from Zuiyi delivered Guizhou green tea, black tea and other high-quality tea to European countries by China-Europe freight trains.
