Yelang Cavescenic area: A Magnificent Underground Palace

In China, there is a well-known idiom called “as conceited as the King of Yelang ”. According to the legend, the ancient king of Yelang thought he ruled the largest country in the world. When a Han Dynasty envoy came, the King asked, “Which is bigger between Han Dynasty and Yelang?” He didn't know that his country was only about the area of a county in the Han Dynasty.

In Guizhou, dozens of cultural relics of the ancient Yelang period have been discovered through archaeological excavations. As a mystery in Guizhou's history, Yelang culture attracts countless visitors.

Yelang Cave scenic area is adjacent to the world-famous Huangguoshu Waterfall. There are cave groups consisting of large and small caves such as the spectacular Yelang Cave, Shihua Cave, Fengziyan Cave and Xiangshui Cave, as well as the unique karst landforms like sinkholes and Yanfeng Slanted Cliff.

The underground streams in the cave are interconnected, and the stone palaces, stone pillar clusters and the jagged rocks make an underground maze. People took nice names according to the shape of the stone pillars – “The Great Wall”, “Chinese Map”, “The Leaning Tower of Pisa”...... In the splendid stone cave, we can see the fancy views and feel the tranquil oriental aesthetics.

Many cultural and tourism projects have injected modern vitality into the ancient cave of Yelang Cave scenic area. The glass suspension bridge spanning between the mountains and river is 128 meters high, equivalent to more than 30 floors high. Walking on the glass floor of the bridge, the acoustic-photoelectric technology help create the scene of breaking glass, making visitors feel thrilled and fantastic. Buyi villagers around the Yelang Cave maintain the simple folk style as well as complete traditional living customs. The Buyi cultural corridor displays the history, food, costumes and culture of the Buyi people.
