Spanning a valley in the mountains, the Daxiaojing Bridge is like a beautiful rainbow that connects the expressway between Pingtang and Luodian, shortening the passing time to one hour, which is two hours faster than driving on the provincial road. It is the first world-class bridge completely built by a local enterprise in Guizhou, creating a beautiful landscape of the Daxiaojing Scenic Area.

The Daxiaojing Bridge matches perfectly with the clear river in the scenic area, ancient and towering banyan trees alongside the river, and crisscross farmlands. The bridge is 1.5 kilometers long, with its main span of 450 meters. The height between the peak that the bridge abutment stands on and the bottom of the river is about 250 meters. It is a typical Chinese large-span steel tube arch bridge built in mountainous area.

It is not easy to build such a bridge over the river in mountainous area. The technical team decided to divide the bridge into 58 sections, among which the largest one weighs 160 tons. Each section was lifted 200 meters in the air and moved to its position to join other sections. On June 30th, 2018, the bridge was successfully completed and became the world’s largest-span concrete-filled steel tube deck arch bridge.

In order to join the sections precisely, the measurement unit is millimeter, which shows the delicate bridge building skill of Guizhou. In addition, “Information system for monitoring and controlling cable cranes and buckles” applied on this bridge is the pioneer of China’s intelligent construction of cable-stayed buckling, increasing the efficiency by 20-50 times.

The completion of the Daxiaojing Bridge has driven its cultural tourism. “Daxiaojing” refers to the two Buyi villages, Dajing Village and Xiaojing Village, with the Dajing River flowing through. This scenic area has more than 90 caves, about 1.2 square kilometers of stone forest, several sinkholes, Dajing River, Xiaojing River and so on. It is praised as the “Oriental Cave Museum”, with the scenery comparable to the Fontaine de Vaucluse, the famous scenic area of France.

However, due to the inconvenient transportation, only a few tourists came here. Now, as the improvement of the road network, farmhouses around this scenic area are springing up. Luodian County has built pavilions, walking paths, guardrails, observation platforms, and docks with bamboo rafts in the scenic area to improve its infrastructure. Tourists can also see the FAST (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope) in Pingtang County. Only taking one hour, visitors are able to drive through the Pingtang-Luodian Expressway and come to Daxiaojing Scenic Area to experience the unique charm of rural tourism with the beautiful scenery, delicious food, and simple Buyi folkway.
